  • “Gifted” Book of the Week: ‘The Measure of a Man’ by Sidney Poitier

In this luminous memoir, a true American icon looks back on his celebrated life and career. His body of work is arguably the most morally significant in cinematic history, and the power and influence of that work are indicative of the character of the man behind the many storied roles. Sidney Poitier here explores these elements of character and personal values to take his own measure—as a man, as a husband and a father, and as an actor.

  • Saving Haiti’s orphans. Is it adoption or kidnapping?

There has been a rush of Americans to adopt orphans from the aftermath in Haiti, but there has to be some questions about why there has been no movement within the numbers of African American orphans in this country for years and the sudden need to help. Is it genuine or just another effort after the fact?

  • Chris Brown and Rihanna One Year Later

We are coming up on a year since the Chris Brown and Rihanna incident, and a few things have happened. We have actually found out who Rihanna actually is, Chris Brown’s career has been destroyed, Rihanna has become a mason with Jay-Z, and it is clear that people don’t stand for domestic violence (see article for how I really feel). Here is an interesting article about Rihanna capitalizing on her situation, Brown trying to bounce back, and the effect on the youth of today.

There are moments in our lives where you have to just shake your head at how ridiculous people can be. This is one of those moments. At the TEA Party convention in Nashville this weekend, Palin needed a little extra help with her answers to the questions she was getting. And yes, I know the picture is Tina Fey. Enjoy.

There’s an app for that. And that. And that. The problem is, AT&T didn’t expect them to be so popular.
